About Me
Teaching is my third career. And so far, my favorite.
After achieving a BS in Political Science from Georgia Southern College, I went right back to school and obtained an MS in Community Development from Georgia State University. I worked 10 years in the planning field, mostly for a regional planning agency in west central Georgia. My experience in this field is energy management; appropriate technology; regional and community planning; land use, zoning, and subdivision development; grant application and administration in water, sewer, road, housing rehabilitation, recreation and waste management projects; and, economic development.
I worked 21 years with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, including four (4) county offices; a 13-county region in west central Georgia as Regional Coordinator for the Independent Living Program (ILP); and the State Office in Atlanta as State Director of ILP. My experience is primarily with the ILP, where I worked with foster and group
home youth in teaching life skills and careers; and in helping youth plan their post-secondary education and career path. I also worked in Child Protection, Foster Care, Adult Protection, and other service and eligibility programs.
After leaving state service, I spent two (2) years at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth in Macon, Georgia as Director of their Independent Living Program at the Macon, Valdosta, Columbus, Americus and St. Mary’s campuses. I subsequently worked as Counselor for the West Central Georgia Workforce Development Program in Youth Services in Griffin, Georgia; and currently substitute teach in Pike, Lamar, Upson, & Spalding Counties, Georgia.
I’m currently a second-year graduate student at Georgia College & State University attending classes in Macon and working toward an MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) in Secondary Teacher Education with a History concentration. In Georgia, I’m certificate-eligible in: History, Geography, Civics/Government, Economics, Middle Grades Social Sciences, Middle Grades Science, and Special Education (General Curriculum.) I’ve also passed the state certification assessment for Middle Grades Math.
I’m married with two (2) daughters, four (4) grandchildren, two (2) dogs, one (1) cat, and three (3) chickens. I was born in Chicago & grew up there and in Atlanta. We (wife, me & animals) live in a 100+ year old house in Meansville, Georgia. And love it.
I enjoy baseball and reading. I collect old books and old baseball cards.
